Those numbers are not competing forecasts of the same result. Each belongs to a separate condition: who wins, how long the fight lasts, or how it ends.

The price indicates an implied likelihood and determines the potential payout. Shorter odds suggest an outcome is considered more likely; longer odds suggest lower probability and offer a larger return. Neither represents certainty. An upset can beat the moneyline favorite, while a likely-looking total can fail after one clean strike. Sportsbook margin and market activity also shape the posted price, so odds are best treated as estimates—not promises.

American odds use $100 as the reference point, but wagers can be any size. A minus sign marks the favorite’s required risk for $100 profit; a plus sign shows an underdog’s profit on a $100 stake. This closer look at plus and minus UFC odds provides more payout examples.

At -150, a $150 stake earns $100 profit. The total return is $250—the profit plus the original stake. A $10 stake earns about $6.67, returning $16.67.

At +130, a $100 stake earns $130 profit. The total return is $230. A $10 stake earns $13, returning $23.

Converting odds to implied probability

Odds can also be expressed as the chance suggested by the price:

Negative odds:
odds ÷ (odds + 100)
using the number without its minus sign

Positive odds:
100 ÷ (odds + 100)

That makes -150 equal to 60% and +130 equal to about 43.5%. These figures describe the market price, not a guaranteed chance of winning.

Together, those probabilities total 103.5%, not 100%. The excess reflects the sportsbook’s margin, often called the vig or hold. Comparing prices across sportsbooks can reduce that built-in cost, even when the difference appears small.

Core market

Moneyline: picking the fight winner

The price reflects the matchup, not a promise.

A moneyline bet concerns only which fighter wins under the sportsbook’s settlement rules. It does not require predicting the method, round, or length of the bout. Draws, no contests, and overturned results may be handled differently by each book, so the house rules matter.

American odds show the market’s basic roles:

Favorite: Negative odds, such as -180. A larger stake is required to win $100 in profit.

Underdog: Positive odds, such as +155. A $100 stake would return $155 in profit if successful.

Near pick’em: Both fighters are priced close to even money, often around -110 on each side after the sportsbook margin.

The favorite is considered more likely to win, but that label offers no guarantee. It also does not automatically make the favorite the better wager. A strong fighter can be priced too aggressively, while an underdog may offer a reasonable price relative to the chance of an upset.

The key distinction is likelihood versus value: the shorter price indicates a higher market-estimated win probability and a smaller potential payout—not certainty or a bargain.

Fight duration

Totals: betting on elapsed time

Half-round lines create exact clock cutoffs.

A UFC total asks whether a bout lasts longer or shorter than a listed duration. The winner is irrelevant; the finish time determines the result.

Because UFC rounds last five minutes, 0.5 means 2:30 into the named round, not half of the entire fight:

Over 1.5 rounds: the bout must pass 2:30 of Round 2, or 7:30 elapsed.

Over 2.5 rounds: it must pass 2:30 of Round 3, or 12:30 elapsed.

The exact cutoff for over 2.5 rounds matters when a stoppage occurs near the midpoint.

“Goes the distance” is a different wager. It requires the bout to reach its scheduled final bell—15:00 for three rounds or 25:00 for five. An over can win earlier: over 2.5 clears at 12:30, even if the fight ends before 15:00. Understanding the difference between distance and over-under markets prevents those labels from being treated as interchangeable.

UFC markets usually open in layers. Early listings often contain only moneylines, sometimes with lower limits while the sportsbook tests its price; the timing of opening UFC odds varies by bout and operator. More betting activity and new information can then push the favorite or underdog price in either direction.

Totals and method-of-victory markets commonly arrive later. The release schedule for UFC prop bets depends on how confidently a book can price the matchup, and smaller props may remain unavailable until fight week.

Official weigh-ins add another information point. Understanding why prices move after weigh-ins means considering a poor weight cut, a missed limit, public reaction, sharper wagers, and the sportsbook’s existing liability. A shift does not prove that the book knows who will win.

Once the bout begins, odds update after takedowns, knockdowns, control time, and completed rounds. Anyone attempting to compare live UFC prices across sportsbooks should check timestamps because feeds do not always refresh together.

Live markets may disappear briefly during fast exchanges or while an official result is pending. These pauses explain why in-fight betting becomes suspended: the book may be managing broadcast delay, stale data, or sudden risk—not signaling a predetermined outcome.

Two sportsbooks can offer the same fighter at different prices. A $100 underdog bet at +150 earns $150 profit, while +165 earns $165. Checking where to compare UFC odds tonight could therefore add $15 without changing the pick.

Favorites work similarly. A $100 stake at -130 returns $76.92 profit; at -145, it earns only $68.97. Alternatively, winning $100 requires risking $130 instead of $145.

Price is only comparable when the selection is genuinely identical. This becomes harder with props, so sportsbooks offering deeper UFC prop menus should be checked for exact method, round, and decision wording—not merely similar labels.

A basic comparison should also include:

Limits: A better number may accept a smaller stake. A Bovada and BetOnline comparison can reveal differences beyond the displayed odds.

House rules: Pushes, cancellations, opponent changes, and grading definitions may differ. Reviewing MyBookie and BetUS side by side helps confirm that apparently matching bets settle the same way.

The best displayed price is useful only when the market terms, accepted stake, and settlement rules also match.
